Mrs. Elizabeth Fothergill, CBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire
The Role of the Lord-Lieutenant
The Lord-Lieutenant is His Majesty the Kingโs representative in the County; with a foremost duty to uphold the dignity of the Crown. Following the example of the King and other members of the Royal Family, the Lord-Lieutenant seeks to promote a good atmosphere and a spirit of co-operation by giving encouragement to voluntary service, and to benevolent organisations, and by taking an interest in the business, industrial and social life of the county.
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant may be given such duties as the Lord-Lieutenant decides and stands in the place of the Lord-Lieutenant when the Lord-Lieutenant is absent, sick, or otherwise unable to act.
Deputy Lieutenants support the Lord-Lieutenant in general, carrying out tasks as directed by the Lord-Lieutenant.
Officers of the Lieutenancy
The King appoints a Lord-Lieutenant for each County on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
The Lord-Lieutenant appoints Deputy Lieutenants (DLs), subject only to The King not disapproving of the granting of the Commission. DLs are holders of a public office and use the post nominal DL.
With The Kingโs agreement, the Lord-Lieutenant appoints a Deputy Lieutenant to be the Vice Lord-Lieutenant.
The age of retirement for all Officers of the Lieutenancy is 75; after which Deputy Lieutenants continue to use the DL post nominal and are retained on a Supplemental List.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire is Mrs. Elizabeth Fothergill CBE.
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire is Andrew Cochrane DL

The Lord-Lieutenant was pleased to recognise that after 85 years this week marked the start of a new chapter in the history of a Derbyshire company.
Nuclear Energy Components welcomed the Lord Lieutenant to its Bradwell facility on Monday, where she toured the site alongside Managing Director Matt Keeley and Operations Director Paul Wildgoose. The visit celebrated both the companyโs long-standing contribution to UK manufacturing and the announcement that the business has officially returned to the historic name, Newburgh Engineering Co Limited.
Founded in 1939 in the Peak District village of Bradwell, the company initially expanded to support the wartime effort before establishing itself as a trusted supplier to the British nuclear industry during the 1950s. Over the decades, the business diversified into defence, aerospace, oil and gas, and power generation, building an international reputation for precision engineering and specialist manufacturing capabilities.
Today, the company , now an employee ownership trust , employs 24 people and continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technology, cellular manufacturing, apprenticeships and employee development, while also supporting local community projects and sustainability initiatives. The Lord-Lieutenant greatly enjoyed the visit, seeing the facility, watching the fllcinating high tech manufacturing processes and meeting some of the telam who proudly displayed ills and experience . With every good wish for their future development.
