Elizabeth Jane Fothergill CBE
Elizabeth (Liz) Fothergill was born and educated in Derby and later at Loughborough and De Montfort Universities After an early career as a Children’s Librarian, she joined the family manufacturing company, Pennine Healthcare, in 1977 and was privileged to lead its UK and international growth as CEO until her retirement in 2016, although remains its Chairman. She was awarded a CBE for services to the healthcare products industry in 2013.
She has held roles in a variety of local organisations including Vice-Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Derby; Board member of the D2N2 LEP; HRH the Prince of Wales Ambassador for Responsible Business ( Business in the Community ) President of the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce; High Sheriff of Derbyshire 2016/17; and Vice President of Derbyshire Scouts . She was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Derbyshire in 2015.
Liz is currently the Chair of Derby Book Festival; Derby Museum and Art Gallery; Derwent Stepping Stones Nursery and was previously the Honorary Colonel of the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Derby in 2014.
Liz succeeded Mr William Tucker CVO as HM Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire on 29 July 2020.
