Royal Visits
The working Members of the Royal Family undertake thousands of visits across the United Kingdom each year. In Derbyshire, as in other Counties, official functions are often included in these visits such as opening new buildings, meeting local dignitaries and visiting businesses, schools, hospitals and other public buildings, as well as community schemes and charities.
Many Royal visits start with either an invitation sent direct to a particular Royal Household from a charity, an organisation or a community group or by the submission of a bid by the Lord-Lieutenant.
It is the formal duty of the Lord-Lieutenant, as His Majestyโs representative in the County, to receive the Royal Visitor as he or she arrives and to be the last to say goodbye.ย That responsibility may be delegated to the Vice Lord-Lieutenant or to one of theย Deputy Lieutenants where necessary

An Invitation Refused
Invitations to members of the Royal Family are welcomed although not all can be fulfilled due to the large numbers received.ย When an invitation is refused by one Royal Household then they will not automatically forward the request onto their colleagues within another Royal Household.ย Where appropriate, the Lieutenancy may decide to submit the bid to another Royal Household for their consideration.
Attendance at a Royal Garden Party
Every Summer, as a way of recognising the invaluable contribution to this Country made by people from all walks of life, The Sovereign hosts at least three Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, inviting approximately 8,000 guests to attend each one.
Individuals are invited on the recommendation of the Lord-Lieutenant of each County, the Government and organisations such as the Civil Service, the Armed Forces, the Diplomatic Corps and a large number of national organisations.
Individuals are not permitted to self-nominate but If you would like someone to be considered for attendance at a Garden Party then please email lieutenancy@derbyshiredales.gov.uk for further details.
