Winter Engagements 23/24

Welcome to the latest update on www.derbyshirelieutenancy.co.uk, the official website of the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and her activities.

After a December dominated by wonderful concerts and Carol services January has been a month of Celebrating and Congratulating some amazing organisations and Derbyshire individuals.

We are delighted to present an update on the Lord Lieutenant’s visits over recent months that we hope provides a glimpse into the dynamic and impactful work carried out by businesses and Individuals from around the county.

I had a marvellous visit to Jericho House in Derby and met  Neil and the tremendous team working extensively with those suffering from addiction, an inspirational and humbling visit.

I was honoured to present  an Elizabeth Cross to the family of  the late Sapper Vernon Holbrook  who was killed in action in Cyprus in 1955, a proud son of Derbyshire. Very emotional for the whole family but so important to remember the service and sacrifice of Vernon aged only 25.

It was a sincere privilege to present a Nuclear Test medal to Ken Harrison National Serviceman who was based on Christmas Island in 1958 for all five of the Nuclear Tests that were carried out. He was deployed with 48 Field Squadron, a unit of 38 Engineer Regiment based in Ripon and he now resides  in Derbyshire

On January 21st the Vice Lord Lieutenant Colonel John Wilson OBE  and I accompanied by Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet  RAF Cadet Warrant Officer Sophie Sheldon travelled to New Mills to present a BEM to Mr Gordon Brodie Stewart for Services to Music. It was an absolute joy to learn more of his incredible career as an  international organist .
